Thanks for the enlightenment Generals Driver. I am truely awestruck !!!
Great picture too.
( My wife says The General is a "cutie pie")(Thats girlie talk)
Somehow I adressed my curiosity toward HRG, my bad. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Thanks for the hand signal info HRG, I figured I would be "educated" real fast....
My son in Phoenix may join the run from there for a few days, I'm working on him. My son-in-law, the active duty LEO on the North Oregon coast, has already put in a request with his Chief to go ATW, waiting on word for that one. Several other friends have been getting an ear full also. :)
Here is another question: Do the host hotels listed in the '12 itinerary stay the same, just the dates change??

The hotels this year were pretty much the same as last year. My guess is they won't change too much. That said the new itinerary for next year will be published probably in early January and will include the final list of hotels. I waited until the list came out this year to make my reservations and had no problem finding rooms, though not always at the host hotel. That was not a problem for me.

dkelley986 Hello
and welcome to the family, I am happy to see you are interested in the run for
the wall. As Curly said the run will leave Rancho 15 May 2013. Sage owl my wife and I will be going all the
way and we will be camping all the way with the exception of Angel Fire. The communications and company is good for me
camping, It is like getting unplugged for 2 weeks, a lot of healing is done
under the stars, there are showers and facilities along the route and the
people who support us and the run are the best. It is an opportunity to see the
best of the country. If you don’t lose 10 pounds of water weight, you may be too
skinny already. But
if you have any questions I can help with please feel free to send me an email
at Shoreparty@rftwcr.us I
ride the central route and have done so since 2004. I ride with the 7th platoon I have
a bike with a trailer. If you’re interested there is a reunion at angel fire
New Mexico, over labor day. It would give you a feel for the environment and
sprit of the run. Thank
you and hope to hear back when you have time Semper

With the exception of DC and leadership.........
If you can't get into the host hotel, don't stress over it. Use Google maps, locate the host hotel, and then (using satellite view) pan around the area for other motels..... Usually the host is located in an area where there are several surrounding motels. One notable exception is Anger Fire if you go Central. Get a room around Eagle Nest/AF ASAP or you may end up 30 miles away in Taos. And don't let any grass grow under your feet on the Holiday Inn in DC either!!

Welcome hdtom, glad you are coming. Keep an eye on the forum here as there will be a lot to learn and you are getting a good early start.
There are two routes from which to choose, one mission and one group of great people to ride with. You don't have to rush into a decision as to which route will work best for you, as you spend time here asking questions and learning things you will probably be able to choose the route later. During the year, details for the next run get worked out and believe me there is a lot that goes into making this work. After the first of the year a list of hotels will be announced, and any changes in the itinerary will have been finalized. No one knows this stuff yet, change can happen. There will be plenty of time to get your personal itinerary put together. In the meantime, introduce yourself and maybe share a little of what brings you to Run For The Wall!

Hey laike67tc Thanks for the reply, you ask me why I am going on 2113 RFTW
will it’s a long story but here is a short version. I am a navy vet and a few
years back I was at the Reno VA hospital for some test on me. I sat next to a
man and we started talking he told me he seen me ride in on my Harley and that
he loved to ride and how he missed it. I notice he was missing his left arm and
right leg so I know why he didn’t ride now. I knew he was a few years older
than me so I think he was in Vietnam it really didn’t matter. After sitting and
talking he had told me he was getting tired of sitting and waiting so long. This
is where I felt like an ass, I told him at least the hospital is free. He stood
up on one leg with one arm and said you think this is free. Wow I felt like
sh*t, I knew when I said it, it was wrong but it was too late. He wasn’t mad at
me but he made it clear that things are not free. We kept talking and I bet I
said I was sorry 100 times. I see him a few times after that and he always told
me, thank you for me severing wow that hit me hard, here he is missing his leg
and arm and he tell me thank you .so I am doing this for him because he can’t.
I am disabled also and no matter how bad you think you are there is always
someone worse then you. So thank you all
vets. I will be looking forward to riding with all of you Us navy 1979-1985

Thanks for sharing your story with us hdtom. You will hear many stories as you get to know the RFTW family that can tear your heart out. Listening and sharing is the way we get them out of our heads and into the hands and hearts of those that have lived along side of us and "get it". You are in a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings here. No one but you can fix the things that haunt you but there are many here in the family that are willing to walk beside you.

With modifications to a bike he can ride, we have and have had in the past guys with amputated arm, double amputated legs and paralized from the waist down. We have had riders that had sidecars built for the wheelchair etc. The Va should pay for the modifications. I am sadden that he feels so much anger and that he is not getting the care that he needs and deserves, seems that the VA just wants to rubber stamp each case. they certainly don't want to let you know what benefits you are entitled too. My experience with the VSO advocates is they didn't care either. I know that Vance was entitled to a lot that he never got and now that he's passed it too late. Hope to see you in 2013 HUGS

Thank you hdtom, we're excited you are coming, can't wait to meet you! I sure appreciate your story, you will find that this is a place where when someone hands you a hankie for your tears, it's already wet. Can't believe all the kleenex we all need on this run!
Don't worry, there is a jovial side of this to balance it out!
Keep your eye on the forum for some of the events in SoCal where we get together, maybe you can get to one of these before the actual run. Sidewalk (aka LaiKhe67tc) |

Top Sarge, I am sorry to hear about your experience with a VSO. I suggest not giving up and try another. Maybe the VFW or AMVETS can help you. If Vance was in the VA Healthcare System and passed with one or more presumptive items listed under Agent Orange; you should be entitled to Widow Bennefits. It seems to me (and I may be wrong) that even if Vance was not signed up with the VA and his passing was due to Agent Orange, you should still be entitled. I am meeting with my National Service Officer (she lost her husband as a result of AO) and I'll ask her if she can help you. Hang in there and don't give up. Vance earned these benefits for you by his service to our country.

My feeling with the VA & agent Orange; they are just waiting for most of us to pass on; than they will include benefits for other connected illnesses. My Rheumatoid Arthritis (an auto-immune disease) isn't, and as most know, A O does impact auto-immune ailments. No record of any of my descendants EVER having RA. Oh well, maybe my grand kids will get some "bennies" (I'm not holding my breath).
On you FNGs, I said in an earlier post, camp out; like ShoreParty said, Wow! what a great time under the stars, and making new friendships too. Welcome aboard |

Welcome home and to RFTW 2013. I also live in Texas, League City and am planning to do the run next year as well. I rode part of the way last year, the southern route; and plan to do the same in 2013. More info will be posted as the ride draws closer. Let me know if I can help answer any questions.

skeater, Thanks for the "camp out" invite again, it is in the ole memory bank, and under consideration, but that said, and being an FNG this year and trying to prepare myself as much as I can, reading the posts on the forum, newsletters, taking a refresher course, riding with a group whenever possible, etc., at times I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, I am definitly planning on going, if lightning doesn't strike me, I am having my allergies spring up just reading the posts. (It has been a very long long time sence those allergies have gotten me this way.) me, myself and I are making a commitment to participate. One small step...one giant leap...
Thank You
