What is the best way to be ready to pay for fuel, credit card, cash, exact change, etc.? What do the majority do? Thanks.

unless you go to a seperate island or another station it is cash only and they round up to next dollar, no coin. The small amt extra helps pay for fuel for the chase truck, Have money in a easy to get to vest pocket windshield bag etc. pull up pegs to save shins of workers, while you are waiting to pull up to pump remove gas cap, when you are at pump they will hand you the nozzel and you pump your gas hand it back, give them the money, pull up to replace cap and to to staging area as directed. then go to BR and then to hydration trailer for water. If you don't need to PEE you haven't drank enough.

The fuel stops are roughly 100 miles apart- some more, some a bit less. At the speeds the pack travels, you will actually get pretty good mileage, you will quickly get an idea of how much cash you will probably need at the next stop.
A good idea is to load up with fives and ones, have them ready and easy to reach when you get into the fuel line. What I do is take out the money and clip it to the windshield- when the fueler calls out the amount I am ready right away. Remember the line of bikes behind you, the quicker everybody fuels up and clears the pump area the happier everyone is. Multiply 15 seconds of feedle-futzing trying to find your money times a couple hundred bikers- not so good... They don't stop the pump between each rider, the total just runs up until the last bike finishes filling. They pay with the cash they have collected- just one total per pump.

Welcome to the Run - I see you are new and asking some basic questions - this is a great place to learn - all questions will be answered at the host hotel - check the main page here and look on the links for the run - most questions will be ansewered and also at the host motel - meetings for FNG and again all questions will be answered - looking back on this forum is also a great place to learn - once you start on the run - you will learn fast - very easy - don't allow all the new info to overload you - its really not that hard. One my first run - I was ask by friends - "how do you know where to ride?" My answer was "I plan to follow the bike in front of me" LOL not fretting over all the info and keep Yourself Safe is the best thing for you to do.
Roadguards / platoon leader and tail gunners will be your best friend. Meeting Everyday with info for all riders
Relax and get ready for the ride of your life.

What works for me:
Don't try to find neutral. I kill the engine in first gear... don't need brakes since it's in gear, and easy to fire back up.
No need to top off the tank. You have enough gas to get to the next stop, and don't have to worry about fuel leaking when you lean the bike on the kick stand.
I sort out $14 dollars for the next fuel stop. (Don't have to mess with the wad of bills you'll need to carry.) That combination has always been enough for whatever the crews asks for, two $5's and four $1s. If it's close, I'll just give the two $5s... I had to use a chase trailer once, and never mind giving a few extra dollars to help pay for their fuel. Cheap insurance for their service if you break down. And NEVER ask for change, because you won't get any, and it will irritate everyone around you.
I have a locking gas lid on the Road Glide, so I carry an extra key on one of those retracting zip thingies on my vest. So when I unlock the cap and leave the key in, the retracting key holds the lid open. Anything you can do to get ready before you get to the pump will speed up the process considerably. As Tom said, a few seconds times a few hundred bikes will make a huge difference.
As an aside, Run leadership will ALWAYS be given priority at the pumps. They need to get through so they can stage in front of you rather than having to weave through the pack.
You will REALLY appreciate the fuel crews after you've seen them in action.

Iam going to politely disagree with you on the 'neutral' thing,,, I can not count the times last year in the fuel line when "Usually Harley's" tried to start their bikes in gear and the battery was really working - Tied to 'suggest' them to find neutral but you know 'Guys' We all know best.. a few bikes batteries barley made it... So, take a moment find "N" and give your bike a must needed rest/help.. Iam NOT a mech or an expert - Just a fuel crew guy that saw a lot of bikes last year have a few issues when trying to start in gear W/clutch pulled in... Plus a few that (looks like normally started in "N") hit the starter in gear and the bike JUMPED forward... scary for ALL - SO, again, take a moment fine "N" and remember to Breath - The Fuel crew is there to help - we will NOT push you through...

OK, this isn't an FNG question because I have been riding for 30+ years but why are you putting the bike in neutral before starting it? I have a HD Road Glide and my wife has a HD Trike. Neither suggest in the owners manual to start in neutral???? I don't think. The clutch has always worked and I have never had any problem. Are you saying it is better to start in Neutral and downshift than start in first with the clutch? Willing to learn something new here.

You will have the motor off while refueling. Probably the best way to move out of the fueling lane is the way you always do it- smoothly and carefully watching for the other bikes also moving forward from the neighboring fuel lanes. We will have 6 - 8 lanes fueling at once, it is easy to get distracted.
With another bike right next to you and the two fueling crew members in the space, you don't have a lot of room to swing around and maneuver. Plan your moves, start your bike, gently move forward. You will be fine. That's one reason you want your cash counted out and ready, trying to stuff it back in your wallet is an extra series of moves you don't need right now... Pegs should already be up, save the fueler's shins!

Again, my suggestion is ONLY that (a suggestion) Do what you are comfortable with and everyone is happy - Iam NOT here to tell anyone how to ride or start their bike - I am only here to help you with fuel and help you and everyone else in any way I can - Working on the fuel crew is great and we fuel 300+ bikes in record time.
the pump Iam working does not get turned off until the last bike comes through - then I pay the amount - any left over goes to the chase trucks/cars and hydration crew =
bike is packed and ready to leave Turlock at 0500 tomorrow..

I would turn the bike off as soon as I got in line. Put the bike in neutral, take off the gas cap and put it in my vest pocket. Have money ready and push the bike (without getting off). When I get to the pump, gas-up, hand over the cash and push the bike forward so the next guy can start filling. Put the gas cap on, start the bike,put it in gear and carefully headout to re-group.
