In a recent discussion with a fellow veteran he asked me what happens
if a rider has the need/urgent demand for a restroom during the mist of a ride segment. If the person leaves his/her platoon for the reasons mentioned above what then? Does the rider play catch-up with his/her group? What happens??

Actually you signal the riders around you that you need to drop out, pull out of formation safely (beware of the Road Guards, or LEO that may be escorting) and proceed to do what is needed.
Catch up to the pack after your done and follow the last man vehicle to the next stop. Then simply rejoin your platoon when everyone is refueling or staging. |

Good to know this Gallupe. I will share this information with my Vet friend. He has been asking allot of questions about the RTTW so maybe he'll make the ride. I forgot to mention that he also wondered how anyone could do laundry at the hotel or laundry mat with all the riders in the general area.

Actually lots of folks will have good advice on tips and tricks on the run.
Hotels usually have washing machines - most folks bring soap powder and change. Some times there's a bit of a wait. Walmart laundry is always an option -- that is where you bring old shirts, underwear and socks, throw them away and get some new ones on the road. (been there, done that) One of the best tips received was to get a set of cool underwear and quick dry shirts. Did that last year and washed them out in the sink with a little bit of shampoo at each stop. Shirt and underwear dried out overnight, really helped reduce the items I had to pack. Only time I did laundry last year was at the Super 8 @ Corydon -- washing machines were broken so the hotel staff did all the lodgers laundry for free as a way to show support. (Year before, used a laundry mat in town at that same stop.) It's all good. Dan |

I start out light and add as I go along. The Walmart laundry works great as well as new shirts from the RFTW store.

You will have plenty of RR's.
As far as clothes, easy 2 pair fishing pants, 2 comfort undies(wash & dry overnight) 5 shirts, 8 pair of socks, for women hang and dry bra's (2). That should all fit in one saddlebag. RED shirt for Friday's. And some have a PINK shirt for Tuesdays. Travel lite, you will be glad at the end of the day when all you have to do is grab a saddle bag instead of huge luggage. You will be hot and and tired and the last thing you really want to do is carry 30 or so punds of clothes in a huge bag to your room.

If you don't want to carry a lot on the bike you can ship clothing to the FedEx store across from the Hotels in RC and send what you carried to RC back home and don't have to do laundry. Pick up what you need in between from the merchandise trailer and WallyWorld. Do the same thing for DC at the Fed EX store right next to the Westin hotel and you don't have to throw anything away. |

To get back to the origional question. We stop enough, or rather, we only ride about 100 miles between stops, so you can control your urges.
As a prostate cancer survivor with radiation, I don’t have a problem with the stops. I might be the first in the restroom, but I don’t have a problem with the stops. If you think there may be a problem, get some depends and ride on.. |

To back up what Speedy said, I also am a prostate cancer survivor who had my prostate removed. It is something that I have to think about and plan for but the ride did not cause any additional problems for me. I can wait that long. You can't "not" drink though. You have to stay hydrated. My buddy who has no prostate problems had to bail off at a road side stop to pee. Not a problem. He caught the pack by the time they got to the next stop.

If a person has an issue that suggests they can not wait all that long between bathroom stops - Keep in mind that when we stop - first thing people do is get in line for fuel THEN they are directed to an area and stagged for our next departure. All this will make sense once you get on the road - IF you can not make it through the long line at Fuel - you will learn how to let the Road Guards know that you will NOT pull into the fuel line until after you make your needed stop... Again, don't fret over this - it will all work out.. This will be my third year and I will be again working the fuel crew - In preparing for my first year, I read this forum and I downloaded the route details - I told my wife, No way in Hell can this group be this organized - I was WRONG - everything is well thought out and we move as a group - you will be amazed at how well the Roag Guards, Staqging and the Fuel crew work all this out.
