Rags, am working on that right now. As of this moment, it doesn't look good. Not complaining at all, as some in this line of work are going hungry. I am just blessed to be as busy as I am. Wuill see what the coming weeks bring though.

GD - as of now my plans are still to ride out with you to Shanksville Sunday morning. I'll be able to firm up after the Rolling Thunder Navy Memorial ceremony on Saturday morning. I'm thinking strongly about heading to the USMC musuem after our photo Saturday afternoon.

One of the stated objectives of RFTW is:

     3. To participate in Rolling Thunder in support of their demand for government accountability for POW/MIA's

Rolling Thunder is not the same ride as RFTW but it has its purpose.  We all ride differently, we all have different reasons for the things we do and what we support. I can allow alot from another rider because I haven't been in their shoes and we all have issues. Don't count out RT because of a couple of folks that might have been having a bad day.

We depart from DC after making the entire Rolling Thunder loop, usually about 2pm; stay left after the Washington Monument and head to I-395.

Mike & Rags, we can firm up the ride to USMC museum later. I may have a couple more wanting to ride down also. No problem making the time to fulfill your promise at ANC. If you don't take care of it Saturday morning we can stop on the way after the group photo.
Dadbo & Shadow, I support the work of Rolling Thunder, however I, like many others cannot participate in everything. I attend their ceremony at the Navy Memorial Saturday morning and I have participated in the demonstratioin a couple of times but don't plan to this year.

Did RT a few times but now visit other places , this year Library of Congress, DAR Museum, but most of all the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary Soldier.

I always recommend you do RT at least once.

I'm unaware of the RT Navy Memorial Ceremony. My son is Navy, 9yrs. and I ride for 2 uncles, USN, WW11. How can I get more info on this event? Can I still attend RT? As an FNG I'm one of those who's eyes are glazed with the "What do I do now?" look. I'll be on my own..my rider will be off with his girlfriend who'll meet him in DC. I'm going ATW with him until then. Will I be able to catch a ride with someone? Thanks for welcoming me into this great family.

Roseanne,
As an FNG you're allowed to go to Arlington National Ceremony on Saturday morning if you can find a ride with another FNG. I regret missing the opportunity to ride into ANC my FNG year but I had just been there a few months prior and decided to forego it with RFTW to allow others to go instead.
The Rolling Thunder ceremony is held at the Navy Memorial at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest at 1100 hours Saturday morning and generally lasts 1/2 to 3/4 hour. They will probably have an appropriate guest speaker along with a wreath laying. The Rolling Thunder website and their weekend schedules are below:
Rolling Thunder demonstration takes place on Sunday and is pretty much all that is going on so there won't be a conflict with other events. Hopefully you will be able to find rides to everything.

Rags it would be an Honor to have you and all others join in.  I would encourage all FNG's to ride RT.  It is an experience you will not forget.  I rode my first one in 2008 which was the RFTW XX.  I will stay and ride again on RFTW XXV.  Untill then I try to visit different places each year.  It's the only way I will be able to see everything there is to see in this Great Nations Capital (Capitol).

Gyspy

So glad you are joining us this year.  Welcome.
Reach out to your route coordinator and let them know that you are looking for a ride into Arlington.  Last year, when folks that were selected to go were identified on the Central route, during the morning meeting it was asked if anyone had room to take FNG passengers.

No worries....

I was an FNG last year and wanted to do it all and I think I came pretty close - wife and I actually stayed an extra week in DC and saw a LOT...

RT - along with RFTW group we arrived at RT at about 0645 - got in line and WAITED,  Parade started at noon we got rolling a little after 1pm - by 1:20 it was all over - as stated - after 10 days with RFTW - this parade was WILD to say the least..

I have done it and can have the bragging rights = I think everyone should do it at least once.  For me, to wait in the hot sun for 6 hours to enjoy a 20 min WILD out of control parade - I will pass this year.  Still, I am glad I did it.

This year we are leaving early Sunday morning while everyone else is getting ready for RT - we will be heading East then South to ride over the Chesapeake Bridge / Tunnel - heading towards Charleston then New Orleans on our way back to CA.

Arlington tags - Last year, they were handed out towards the end of the run - don't remember what stop it was at... The way it went - they are handed out to the FNG's that started in RC then Williams and so on - Last year everyone that wanted a tag - got one.  If I remember right - Only one person on the bike needs to be an FNG - rider or passanger

All...for those that are considering a ride down to the USMC Museum keep in mind the museum is only open from 9-5 daily, and it takes a solid two hours to walk through it at a good clip. Also, for those looking to do something other than RT on Sunday I copied this off the museum's webpage....

"Special Event — Band of America's Few Performance 2pm
The Band of America's Few will perform on the Parade Deck in front of the Museum. The Band of America's Few is comprised of former/retired Marine Musicians who are driven to provide the world with a musical group unlike anything that has been done in the past, performing music that is traditionally America's and our beloved Corps'.
